Of all our thin-profile locknuts, these provide the most secure grip and fit in locations with limited clearance. They are about two-thirds the height of typical steel-insert locknuts. By threading them up against a hex nut to secure it, you can also use them as jam nuts. Even when there is a lot of vibration, the tab on the insert prevents the nut from turning. These locknuts are perfect for machinery like compactors, shakers, and conveyors that move constantly or have abrupt starts and pauses. They are indeed so safe that they can be used to secure parts of roller coasters. They can be used once or twice, but after the first time, their gripping ability diminishes, thus for the strongest hold, use a fresh locknut.
These locknuts, which are rated Class 10, Grade 8, or C, are around 25% stronger than medium-strength steel nuts. Make sure your screw has a similar strength rating to prevent stripped threads during installation.
