These are 10% wider and about two-thirds taller than regular flex-top nuts. They can be used in low-clearance areas and can support bigger loads by spreading them out over a wider area. They can also be used as jam nuts because of their small profile, which allows you to thread them against a hex nut to secure it. Unlike both distorted-thread and nylon-insert locknuts, the top part stretches to grasp the screw on all sides for a firmer hold. They are therefore appropriate for use in machinery that vibrates vigorously and continuously, such engines. Although these locknuts can be reused a few times, their holding capacity diminishes with each usage.
These locknuts, which are rated Class 10, Grade 8, or C, are around 25% stronger than medium-strength steel nuts. Make sure your screw has a similar strength rating to prevent stripped threads during installation.
